ADvantage Thinking

Have you watched a hawk soar, seemingly effortlessly? Effortlessness and going with the flow….
. Does that sound appealing to you? Is it how your life looks today? The other day, I watched a hawk fighting a high wind beating it’s wings furiously and not making any headway. I said aloud" Quit flying into the wind, silly bird" As the words came out of my mouth, I had to laugh. It was MY message! That’s EXACTLY what I sometimes do- struggle against the natural flow of the universe. My own personal path of growth is evolving. Instead of setting tightly controlled goals and planned actions to force a result, I am taking actions each day that express what is important to me (treating people well or being creative). By just being the best that I can be and trusting it will make a difference, serendipity can occur.

Coaches Tip>When your values and vision are clear, letting go of the control offers more possibility and options and leaves room for surprises. (Can you REALLY control the future? ~ or is it truly a superstition?)

What ingredient allows some people to create peak performance and while others to struggle with the same circumstances? Let’s learn to Soar……

Aerodynamic principle #1
According to aerodynamic principles, a bumblebee can’t fly! The bumblebee, luckily doesn’t know that! Our own perceptions limit our actions!

Coaches Tip>Where does what you know to be true about yourself or the world shut down possibility for you? What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? What’s the worst that could happen if you tried? Explore the limits of your comfort zone!

Aerodynamic principle #2
Going with the flow is easier than fighting the current. Riding my bike against the wind, I struggle and pedal hard to make headway. Interestingly when the wind is at my back, there is no experience of the wind being there at all…In the flow…

Coaches Tip> Roadblocks and difficulties may be a sign you’ve chosen the hard path. Do you buy into the theory you can’t get what you want without working hard? Do you dismiss the stuff that comes easy as accidents? For a whole week, take the easy path……

Aerodynamic principle #3
Airplanes and birds must fly into the wind to get lift. Challenges and problems may be stepping stones and lessons for us to be able to soar.

Coaches Tip> Accept the lessons you do get and let them lift you next time. Instead of being dismayed and upset about how it shouldn’t be this way, spend that energy to look for the opportunity. When something occurs that upsets you, decide how long you will stay upset over it: 10 minutes? 2 days? 5 years?

Helen Keller said "When one door of opportunity closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us."
