"One of the most tragic things I know

Joeann's Musings: Planning, Planning,
Planning |
|
As the weather starts to turn cool (Yes,
even here in Arizona), I begin to assess
the present year and make some decisions
about what still needs to be done to make
it the best year ever. And then my then my
focus turns to the coming year. November
is really the perfect time to plan the
coming year since it gives you the time to
implement and get everything readied to
begin the new year with momentum.
First, though, let’s consider that
assessment of the present year. The best
thing you can do for your business is to
spend a couple of hours reviewing your
numbers for this year. Beyond the basics
of number of units and gross and net
commissions, you should be
examine the
source of each sale and the marketing
dollars spent to create that sale. Also,
the number of referrals, your average sale
price, and your worth per hour. If you are
not tracking your business with software
that will enable you to pull up reports
easily, that expenditure for 2005 may be
one of your most valuable. I know you
THINK you know about where this stands,
but I can promise you that seeing the
numbers will give you some surprises!
The next decision for you to make is what
you are willing to create for the last 2
months of the year. Did you hit your goals
and are rewarding yourself with some well
deserved down time these last 2 months? Is
there still a gap and do you need to get
yourself in high gear so you can make your
goal? Or have you become resigned that it
is impossible? By consciously choosing to
give it 150% in these next 2 months, you
will set yourself up for a great start to
the coming year. There is less competition
during Nov. & Dec. because so many agents
do get into “holiday” mode. But, consider,
the buyers and sellers this time of the
year are more serious and it is just plain
a myth that there is no business this time
of the year. My
research show a slight (10% or so)
decline, but there is LOTS of business out
there is you are willing to work and go
for it!
Now, the third job you have is to set
aside the time for your 2005 Business
Plan. Nothing is more crucial if you are
serious about success than having a
clarity about what you want and why. The
long term goals that include your escape
plan and retirement and the immediate
goals that will be an increment of the
longer term goals are the way to determine
minimal acceptables for the coming year.
And, then the question to ask is what more
do I want to unleash? I have been doing
some speeches and planning this year’s
Business Makeover Retreat during the past
few weeks. One challenge I am suggesting
to all is to create a
100 Be/Do and Have List of what you
want for yourself in this lifetime. If you
click on the link, you’ll get a
complimentary form to use. As an incentive
and because I love you and REALLY want you
to do this, I will send you a copy of my
Simple 2 page Business Plan at no charge
if you email me your list with at least 50
items identified (Or, if you prefer, I’ll
send my
Awesome Year Plan to you for only
$7.50-that’s half price! Or give you a $50
discount on
my Business Makeover Retreat )
Now, no excuses…put planning on your
calendar or in my PDA right now. Find that
afternoon you can set aside and block it
out!

My name is Pat G. and I’m a stuffaholic…….
It all started when I was a child. I
loved to explore my grandparent’s attic.
There were so many fascinating things up
there. I don’t know if my Grandfather
ever threw anything away.
My dad is a pack rat too. Mom has been
trying to clean out their attic for
years. I’ve seen Mom going downstairs
carrying stuff out, while Dad is going up
with an armload of things he just can’t
live without. Maybe it’s genetic—and I’ve
got it on both sides of my family!
When I was a child, my room was full of
stuff.
Then, my home was full of stuff. Even my
car is full of stuff.
How many of you have a problem with too
much stuff?
The frustration can be overwhelming. For
example, I spent ages looking for the
manual I needed for today’s speech. I
never did find it. On the plus side,
while searching I found my leadership &
communications manual.
Have you ever been late paying a bill
because it got lost in a pile of other
stuff, or got thrown out in a “cleaning”
frenzy.
Or maybe you received an invitation to
something, but by the time you ran across
it, the event was over.
Maybe you even forgot to deposit a check
because you stuffed it in your purse or
wallet and it became lost among the other
stuff.
How about the clothes in your closet that
you know will fit one of these days, and
by the time they do, they may even be back
in style.
I propose we start a 12 step program
called stuff-a-holics anonymous. We can
meet after toastmasters on Friday
mornings. Of course then, I guess it
won’t be too anonymous, but what the heck.
I have developed a list of affirmations to
help those of you with too much stuff.
Repeat after me.
1. I am not a victim of my stuff.
2. I do not bring anything into the house
without taking 2 things out.
3. I only buy something if I have an
immediate and specific need.
4. I only buy something if there is a
place for it.
5. I do not buy large quantities of things
at a warehouse club.
6. I do not collect the give-a-ways at a
trade show.
7. I take out one bag of stuff everyday,
and leave it out.
8. I do not save magazines just in case an
article might someday be of interest.
9. I do not keep coupons after their
expiration date.
10. I do not keep all the empty plastic
containers in my kitchen.
11. I do not keep clothing that is more
than 2 sizes too small.
12. Everything in my home has a specific
place.
Saying these affirmations daily will help
you on your way to being clutter free.
There are several benefits to not having
so much stuff around.
You have lots more leisure time because
you’re not spending so much time searching
for things, or going out to replace them.
You save money not having to replace the
things you can’t find.
You can increase the size of your house
just by having less stuff in it.
One of the great things about this
treatment is that it’s very inexpensive.
All you really need is a box of garbage
bags. Well, maybe you need the warehouse
club size. But there is an immediate and
specific need for them….
Thanks Pat!
