Joeann's Musings: Change
of Life |
|
I had expected
when I got into my
50's to have to
deal with the
"Change of Life".
What I was
expecting was hot
flashes (sorry,
guys, if I'm being
indelicate) and
other symptoms.
But the true
change of life for
me in this decade
has been having a
baby! And talk
about changes...I
did get the hot
flashes but they
are nothing
compared to the 24
hour new
responsibilities!
If you've been a
reader for a
while, you know I
became a
grandmother 16
months ago. My
daughter is not
well and my
husband, Bub, and
I are now the
caretakers of
little Lily and we
are rearranging
our lives in ways
we never expected.
Is this what I had
planned in the
Master plan for my
Life? No way!
And, I thought I
was being so smart
to actually HAVE
long term plans
and goals.
Now what?
I am asking
myself...
I am musing the
avenues available
to walk when life
throws me a curve
ball. I am sure
it's what Superman
(Christopher
Reeve) asked
himself when he
became paralyzed.
Now What?
It seems to me the
ONLY
option is to
embrace where we
are now and
discover how we
can live out our
values and purpose
in life from this
new perspective.
No sniveling..just
get on with it.
Now What????
And, I am
delighting in this
change of view.
I've said for
years I want to
work 30 hours a
week and always
seemed to be
working 50+ but
now with
Lily-time, I am
forced to work
less. It has
forced to
implement all my
productivity
tricks that I've
shared with my
coaching clients.
The great thing is
that it IS
working!!! How
Interesting!
Do you have a
piece of your life
that doesn't look
like you expected
it to or wanted it
to? Have you
embraced that this
is just the way
things are and
reformulated *Now
What*? Have
you delighted in
the opportunities
of *How
Interesting*?
I imagine, in the
long run, these
questions will
become the
statement: *How
Perfect* because I
trust that there
is a reason for
all that happens
and I can learn
more and have more
joy when I go with
the flow, instead
of trying to swim
upstream. What
perfect happenings
are there in your
life? Now
What?

Whether you
tackle the
clutter or the
rolodex,
you'll find
throwing out
the old that
isn't serving
you or making
your life
better opens
up some space
for the new,
good stuff to
come in.
My challenge
for you is to
fill 8-12
large green
garbage bags
with stuff
that you don't
need, don't
like, doesn't
fit, don't
need and
doesn't
represent who
you are today.
You may even
save your
children a lot
of time by
getting rid of
all that stuff
that they'll
have to go
through when
you
die......Give
away what is
reusable (and
realize you
are putting
energy back
into the mix
to return to
you). Throw
out what
isn't. There
is a magic in
clearing
space: it
creates more
time. Try
it-you'll see
Next go
through your
databases and
clear out the
people you
don't like,
the ones that
don't fit,
etc. In other
words, stop
playing real
estate by the
numbers and
make your
marketing
budget
lighter....stop
sending to
people who you
do not have a
strong
relationship
with or who
wouldn't refer
to you.
Get rid also
of the
listings that
are never
going to sell
that are
costing you
money to
service. And
the high
maintenance
clients who
drain your
energy.
Yes....there
are others out
there, but you
won't attract
them if all
your time is
spent with the
energy
drainers
Whew....doesn't
that feel
good? Now,
it's time to
let the seeds
that have been
planting and
that have been
germinating
begin to peek
up through the
earth and turn
into spring
flowers!

What
differentiates
you? |
How
do you
differentiate
yourself on
the listing
presentation?
A pre-listing
package is a
sure fire way
to get the
seller's
attention.
Many very
successful
agents are
sending this
out within
hours of the
initial call
to
position themselves
as an agent
who goes the
extra mile.
These days,
this can be
done via email
and can be set
up so that it
only takes a
bit of
personalization
to be able to
send it off.
Be sure to
include a list
of questions
to ask other
agents that
has your
strengths and
qualifications
showcased. (A
great reason
to get your
LTG
designation,
since such a
small
percentage of
other agents
have one)
Also, ask them
to have a set
of keys made
for you and
copies of
their utility
bills. If they
have
everything
ready, you'll
know it's a
slam-dunk!
