Chocolate Lovers |
|
Dr
Andrew Weil says"
Like many of
you, my favorite
treat is
chocolate. I
even recommend
it as a snack -
as long as you
can find good
quality, dark
chocolate and
you don't go
overboard (an
ounce or two a
few times a
week). In fact,
while I wouldn't
call chocolate a
health food, it
is a source of
polyphenols, the
same type of
antioxidants
found in red
wine. Also, the
fat in chocolate
is stearic acid,
which doesn't
affect
cholesterol
levels. And the
latest good news
for chocolate
lovers? One
study found that
the flavonoids
in dark
chocolate are
good for your
heart. These
compounds reduce
the stickiness
of platelets
(cells that play
an important
role in blood
clotting),
reducing the
danger of
coronary artery
blockages.
That's the kind
of news that
makes my day.

lot of good
health

Wisdom |
|
According to
the ancient Chinese
philosopher
Lao-tzu:
"As
the soft yield of
water cleaves
obstinate stone, So to
yield with life solves
the insoluble. It is
said, "There's a way
where there's a will,"
But let life ripen and
then fall, Will is not
the way at all: Deny
the way of life and
you are dead. "
"Life is not
measured by the number
of breaths we take,
but by the
moments that
take our breath
away."
Anon
"If I had a
formula for bypassing
trouble, I would not
pass it round. Trouble
creates a capacity to
handle it. I don't
embrace trouble;
that's as bad as
treating it as an
enemy. But I do say
meet it as a friend,
for you'll see a lot
of it and had better
be on speaking terms
with it."

Joeann's Musings |
|
I just
returned for the NAR
Convention in New Orleans. The
conventions is always a great
opportunity to learn and share
and connect. The hands on
technology sessions were a
great place to get some
specific training on software
and hardware. I learned how to
mail merge from Outlook-that
alone was worth the
investment!Amazingly, there
were only 22,000 REALTORS out
of our 850,000 membership.
These are the people who are
going to have an advantage in
2003! If your weren't in that
elite group, plan to be in San
Francisco next year. I will be
doing a teleconference next
week with Wynne Achatz sharing
our view of the
"Best of NAR". Please join
us.
As many of
you know, I have been blessed
by a grandchild, Lily, who
just turned one. The
difference this has made in
our daily lives has been a
learning experience all year
of being in the present
moment, of having a
reawakened curiosity about
everything and a re-ordering
of my priorities around people
not things. Lily lives at our
house and for some of this
year, I was primary caregiver.
I had done
some intensive business
planning for 2002 that did not
include my new
responsibilities and I got
some real good first hand
experience at letting go and
realizing I WAS NOT IN
CONTROL. Damn, I hate it when
that happens!!!! It reminded
me, though, as I see so often
with my coaching clients, that
the unexpected often happens,
just when we are feeling most
smug about having it
altogether. I am struck with
the need to remember I ALWAYS
have the power to take action
and it is not as important
what happens to me, but how I
react to it.
So, I still
have made my plan for 2003,
but there is a lot more
willingness to go with the
flow and having my "playing
with Lily" times be the
highest priority. Is there
some area of importance you
have neglected because you
don't have time now? In 2003,
decide to always put people
before things and see if you
don't experience more joy!
You ARE
working to HAVE a life, aren't
you?
|
Advantage Thinking: Letting
Go & Saying NO! |
|
As you
do your business planning
for 2003, the things to
get OFF your plate and the
things you start to say NO
to can be the best actions
to free up your precious
time. Remember what I say,
"Life is Too Short To Work
with Jerks."
Did you
spend time this year with
buyers that wasted your
time or with high
maintenance sellers that
drained your energy? Did
you say yes to serving on
committees or "helping" in
places you don't get joy
from anymore? Are you
still trying to do it all
yourself instead of
delegating the items that
aren't the highest and
best use of your time?
COACHING TIPS> Review
your calendar for 2002 and
take
a good look at what DIDN'T
work this year. Some
actions to take:
-
Write or review a
"perfect client"
profile, listing the
qualities of those
folks you love to work
with and for whom your
talents are a great
fit.
-
As
you are approached by
clients this year,
compare to the
profile. If there is
not some other
compelling reason to
work with them, refer
them to someone else,
so you'll free time
for the good ones.
-
Review the other
obligations you have
committed to. Do you
still enjoy each or
have you outgrown some
and it's time to move
on. Limit and restrict
what you say yes to by
insisting it be a
place of joy and
integrity with what's
important to you.
-
Keep a log for a week
of how your time is
spent (every 15 min or
so, write down what
you are or have been
doing). At the end of
the week, determine
how much of what you
did could be delegated
or shouldn't have been
done at all.
-
Find places to
outsource EVERYTHING
that isn't using your
talents to the
fullest. Find a
transaction
coordinator, a great
virtual printer, and
others who are experts
at what you hate to
do!

More Advantage
Thinking: What
differentiates you? |
|
In 2003, the agents
who have
thoughtfully
strategic planned
will increase their
market share.
Today's consumers
are looking for the
agent who is going
to make it easy and
convenient for them.
They want access to
information and
someone who will
listen to their
needs. How do you
need to position
yourself to be the
agent of choice?
What are the needs
of YOUR "perfect
client" and what
strategic alliances
can you implement
this year with
merchants and
business people to
enhance your value?
If you are
interested in
delving into this in
more depth, consider
attending one of my
Business Makeover
Retreats...we
focus on your
strengths and
strategically
building your
business. (There are
still 6 spaces for
Orlando next month)
