Joeann's Message
<<>> ** <<>> ** <<>> **<<>> ** <<>>

Yep, you are right...the newsletter is a little late! It's been a busy October
And I've had the opportunity to do lots of traveling this month. And I got
a reminder to slow down when I sprained my ankle while taking a brisk walk in
Massachusetts! So, I'm listening to that message and just enjoying each day!

Traditionally ,my November & December newsletters are combined
and come to you AFTER the NAR convention, to take advantage of the
news from there! I think you'll enjoy this month's article by Stephen Piotrowski
from Coldwell Banker in St. Louis. When was the last time you had recess?

I just spent 4 days with a great group of motivated agents planning an Awesome 2001.
The Real Estate Game Business Planning Retreat was a success and underscores for
me the value of having a clear vision and mission and tying your strengths and passions
to the way you do business. It is not too early to do YOUR planning for 2001! We have
scheduled two more opportunities for you to do your planning in Las Vegas, New Orleans and Hawaii.
Are you ready?

"The value of deciding in advance what you want to happen is simply that you
will perceive the situation as a means to make it happen. You will therefore make every effort to overlook what interferes with the accomplishment of your objective,
and concentrate on everything that helps you meet it."
A Course in Miracles

THE COACHING DISTINCTION OF THE MONTH

<<>>  **  <<>>  **  <<>>  ** <<>>   **  <<>>  **  <<>>  **

A Game Worth Playing vs. Goals

DEFINITIONS:
Game Worth Playing: A "Perfect" Outcome

Goals: Measurable Target To Define Success

COMPARISONS:
Quantum Leap vs Linear
Beacon Vs Right/Wrong

EXAMPLE: Jill decided to play a "Game Worth Playing" when she set
her sites on doubling the previous year's production
Jim did business planning each year and defined goals for the following year, based on a reasonable expectation of growth..

KEY POINT: In a Game Worth Playing, the process and results that come from thinking beyond a reasonable expectation, draw Jill into being very creative.
When focused on reasonable goals, Jim's tendency will be to increase what has worked in the past and do "more, harder, faster."

BENEFIT: Jill will have to re-invent her way of doing things instead of just increasing the
amount to work. Using the Game Worth Playing as a beacon to align actions toward,
rather than a measure of failure or success. strategic thinking is increased and surprising
results often occur.

COACHING ACTIONS:
1. Timeblock an hour to work on creating a Game Worth Playing for 2001.
2. Visualize ending 2001 with a result that would make you feel very proud and excited. What out come would give you goose bumps?
3. Decide if you are willing to play the game full out and take some BIG actions and risks or if you'd rather be comfortable.
4. If so, get yourself a structure of accountability and inspiration to fuel the Game!

ADVANTAGE THINKING: ARE YOU TAKING ENOUGH RECESSES?

<<>>  **  <<>>  **  <<>>  ** <<>>   **  <<>>  **  <<>>  **

By Stephen F. R. Piotrowski, CRRS REALTOR

realtorcb1@aol.com

For some unexplained reason when we left grade school we quit taking recess. Then when we left high school we quit doing exercise (PE Class). When we got into college or the work force we took on a role of a machine, constantly struggling to achieve. Whoever said recess and exercise should not be part of our lives in the real world. How many of us have stolen from ourselves daily those times we use to cherish, recess and fun exercise. Our calendarsare just that, our calendars. It is absolutely essential that we, on a dailybasis, place our time first. So my suggestion is:
Take your daily calendar, and before placing in any other issues, determine what times will be yours:ie: Bedtime, awake time, breakfast, lunch and dinner time, recess (and this should be for one hour a day away from it all), exercise time (and this should be at least 3 times a week for an hour), reflection time (and don't put this collective with your recess time) forreviewing the day schedule in the morning to resolve the day before it begins and then at the end of the day to determine what might need to be placed on tomorrow's calendar.

Recess is your fun time, time in the park, a trek through the mall, a trip
to the zoo or art museum, come on folks what was your favorite thing to do
during recess: I loved to go on the swings as high as I could get it.

Exercise time, now this should not be a strenuous time you are not getting
ready to pose for Mr/Ms Universe. Remember those high school days with the games we played. Well maybe right now you are not ready for a heavy duty game but a walk for an hour three times a week is probably more than most of us are doing now. Figure out something that will provide your life with more bodily awareness and you will benefit greatly. Studies have shown that the more we exercise and the more fit we are the less sleep we need. Oh now, there might be another hour a day for your in the future.

Now after doing this on your calendar you are ready for the world.
Just a point to reflect upon. If a business person normally has 5 work days
a week with the time frame of 8 hours a day....  let's take a look at the numbers: At least 1/2 hour for lunch and a 15 minute break twice a day (oh come on, you have to use the bathroom at least twice) so that leaves 7 hours per day. Minus an hour for distractions and mobile needs to go places that leaves 6 working hours a day. 6 days a week times 5 days a week making up a total of 30 work hours. (Now I know some do more than that, but let's be idealistic) If you make a calendar up and include your times and refine our life and bodily capabilities you may be able to wake an hour and 15 minutes earlier each day you would essentially be adding another 6 hours and 15 minutes to each work week. If you used this early time to start the day and begin your work you would be having 6 work days a week plus the other two days making up  a week of 8 days. Just think how much more you can accomplish just be adding our time to the calendar, recess, exercise and the ability to rejuvenate to
the point of being more refreshed in the morning and able to start the and
added day to each week of your life.
